Feelings, explained.

Most people think they have feelings because something outside of themselves made them feel a certain way.

I suspect you are not one of these people, as you are reading a blog about Hypnosis; so you probably understand that what happens outside of us comes into our consciousness with no emotional charge. It is neutral (except for physical pain). The sensation (sight, sound, etc.) is then passed through to our Unconscious, which then compaires the experience with our past to determine if it is good or bad.

As the Unconscious cannot talk using words, but is in charge of our autonomic (automatic) nervous system (e.g., blood pressure, hormones, etc.), it uses bodily sensations as it’s language: thus, we feel them, and predictably call them “feelings”*.

(NOTE: this is an extreme simplification of the process, of course.)

Believe it or not, all of these feelings are helpful signals, with the intention of urging us to either keep doing more of what we are doing (if the feeling is positive) or to address a problem (if the feeling is negative).

This sounds simple, but has a profound implication: all your bad feelings can be removed, if you address the problem behind each.

Here are some examples:

  • Anger means you think something was unfair.

  • Fear means your subconscious believes there is danger.

  • Guilt means you feel you did something unfair to another.

The responses to these feelings would therefore be:

  • Anger: Make the situation fair.

  • Fear: Avoid/plan/defend against the danger.

  • Guilt: Make the situation as fair as possible, and forgive yourself.

This is level I of changing your life to be filled with more energy and satisfaction (and less “bad” feelings).

Some people may not have realized this, and therefore having this knowledge will, by itself, change their lives for the better.

But this is only stage one, and of course, knowing and doing are two entirely different things.

There are many ways in which this knowledge can fail you; here are my top 5:

1) You cannot control your environment to make the appropriate change (Keep looking! Keep trying! There are always options!)

2) The issue is in your past, and cannot be confronted.

3) You are doing something that distracts from the feeling (smoking, drinking, drugs, over exercise, over eating, sex, etc.) with which you are ignoring your issue.

4) You don’t know why you are having this feeling, and thus cannot address the root cause.

5) There is a medical issue (e.g., Addison’s disease, Male/Female menopause, heritable depression, etc.) which can only be addressed by either waiting (menopause) or medical intervention.

[ NOTE: a combination of some or all of the above is what I usually see.]

So, the question then becomes — how do we fix these problems if we don’t know, or can’t fix them?

Of course I’m going to say that Hypnosis can address all of these issues, and I bet you saw that coming.

But really what we are asking is how? How does hypnosis help? What are we, as hypnotists, doing?

Well, first, we explain what feelings are, and the appropriate responses to each of them. Then we address each of the 5 problems listed above.

For number 1, (Above) we will help you discover new ways of changing your situation (all generated by your authentic self).

For number 2, we can do age regression (look it up if you don’t know what Hypnotic Age Regression is).

For number 3, we can work together to find out why you have an addiction, and address the root cause, while simultaneously clearing up past beliefs & habits, and also addressing any “outside” influences that may impede your ability to give up your addiction.

For number 4, we can help you navigate your Unconscious to illuminate your feelings and dissolve mistaken beliefs or blocks.

For number 5, we can work on how you feel about your condition, perhaps by easing symptoms or adjusting your relationship with your condition, while supporting your medical provider’s treatment.

While we are doing this, we are also revealing to our clients their true thoughts and concerns which they don’t realize they have.

All of this adds up to a robust and wholistic psychological re-set, which allows you to begin your life anew, with a clean slate; with more understanding, insight, goals and less painful feelings to distract you.

If this sounds intriguing, I urge you to talk with a Hypnotist (or Hypnotherapist) specializing in 5-PATH hypnosis**.

As always, if you have any questions, please email us at info@seehypnosis.com. Take care of yourself, be kind to yourself, and keep working towards your mental health goals!

*Expressions of these feelings are actions or reactions from these motivating feelings, and are therefore called emotions.

**Other types of hypnosis may not address all the issues I mentioned, though they may — I just can’t be sure. If you have another type of hypnosis in mind, you can email me and I’ll take a look at it to see if they offer the same breath of intervention — or more.
