Keep a journal!

One of the things that people notice about Hypnosis, is that it works quickly. However, this effect seems to fade after a while, leading us to believe that we’ve slowly slipped into being “normal”.

This is both “true” and “false”, as you have slipped into being normal — but it’s your new normal. However, you have not gone back to your old ways … you have been permanently changed!

“But,” a client may say, “I don’t feel the changes anymore.” To which I always say, “Yes, but let me tell you what you said the first time we met. [insert notes their first meeting with me]. So that’s what you used to feel like. Do you still feel that way?” The answer is always “well, no …”.

This happens so often, I have just started telling people to journal before the first session (between the consultation and the first hypnosis session). I have only done this with a couple of clients, but the results are amazing. I ask them to bring their journal to the last session and together we go over it, and they have marveled at how far they have come.

Living life facing towards the future is wonderful, even to be encouraged! However, every once in a while we all need to see how far we’ve come. We need to look backwards, if only to inspire us by how much we have positively changed. Without a clear fossil to study, this becomes much harder, and much less accurate — because we’re only using our flawed memory and our current feelings. So, if you’re going through a hard time, write down how you feel, if only for your future, better self can really see how powerful you are.

As always, be kind to yourself and others; and remember, there is hope!
