Taking it easy on yourself should be your number one goal.
“I’m so stupid. I suck.” How many times have you heard someone say this? How many times have you said this to yourself?
For the majority of my life, there has been this negative pressure, constantly. Pressure that I should be nicer. Pressure that I should be a better father. I should achieve more. I keep messing up. Pressure, pressure, pressure.
Should it be any surprise that I was very unhappy? Every moment was filled with negativity. Every thought was what I was not, and what I should be.
When I first went to hypnosis, I was miserable. The very first thing I learned was, I was my own worst critic. Of course I was unhappy! The most important person in my life thinks I’m a fucking asshole (pardon my French, but I’m being real here).
So, I stopped treating myself like an emotionally abusive husband.
Since then, I must’ve caught myself treating myself like dirt at least 100,000 times, but now I realize I am doing it. So, I just apologize to myself (yeah, it’s a little hokey) and talk to myself like I would my child: with compassion and love. Then, something spectacular happened: I started feeling like a decent person. I like myself. I admire my gumption. I empathize with my struggles.
Your self talk is enormously powerful. If you belittle yourself, you’ll feel belittled. You’ll feel unworthy and trapped.
If there were ONE thing I could teach my clients, it’s to treat yourself with kindness, love and empathy. Because, you are one of the most important people in your life. If you are not, then, unhappiness is guaranteed.
Hypnotherapy helped me tremendously and immediately. How?
I got to see myself as a child, and realized that was actually me. I was innocent and loveable. I was curious, funny and excited about everything. I never hurt anyone intentionally, I only wanted love and fun. … and I am still him.
So, when I think of myself, I see that kid. My Conscious mind is a parent of a very loveable kid. This is an easy thing to do, because my Conscious mind (what I think of as me) already thinks of itself as the boss. It is only a half step to being a parent. My Unconscious (the 85% of me) is, by nature, child-like.
This has made all the difference. Now I’m rooting for me and I feel so much lighter.
